My Place Professional Learning Sessions
Join ACTF Education and My Place Resource curriculum writer Maree Whiteley for a three-part professional learning series exploring the reimagined My Place Education Resource.
Renewed and aligned with the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, the resource offers fresh opportunities for educators to engage students with Australian history through inquiry, reflection and rich cross-curricular learning. Across three sessions, participants will gain an overview of the resource, explore its curriculum connections and discover practical teaching strategies designed for Years 3 - 4 and Years 5 - 6 classrooms.
Drawing on the powerful stories of children, families and communities across generations, My Place helps students connect personal histories with broader narratives of continuity and change. Join us to explore the renewed resource's potential to spark curiosity, deepen historical understanding and support engaging, inquiry-driven learning in primary classrooms. Participants are welcome to attend all three sessions or select those most relevant to their teaching context.

About Maree Whiteley
Maree Whiteley is a curriculum writer, lecturer and professional learning consultant whose work centres on story, identity and place in Australian classrooms. With deep expertise in AC History and inquiry pedagogies, Maree supports teachers to use rich content meaningfully. Currently lecturing in Primary Humanities and Inquiry-based Learning at UWA, Maree also leads a thriving Purposeful Learning Community.
Session 1: Reimagining My Place
Discover the reimagined My Place resource and explore how it supports students to investigate Australian history, identity and place through story. This session provides an introduction and overview of the resource structure, navigation and key features, while highlighting its alignment with the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0. Participants will also explore the inquiry-based design approach that underpins the learning experiences and supports deep student engagement. Ideal for teachers who are new to the resource or looking to familiarise themselves with the updates.

Participants will leave with classroom-ready ideas, including examples that foreground First Nations perspectives and intercultural understanding.

Participants will gain ideas for engaging students in critical thinking, reflection and creative responses, including learning experiences that foreground First Nations perspectives.
